Tampa Bay DAO: An Introduction

by Tampa Bay DAO

Published On: January 13th, 2022
Tampa Bay DAO (TBD) is creating a collaborative community for free agents on the other side of the Great Resignation.

With over 4 million people turning in their resignation letters to employers in 2021, Tampa Bay’s Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) offers a place for free agents such as creatives, entrepreneurs, artists, freelancers, etc. to share knowledge and skills in a supportive, educational, and collaborative environment.

While free agency can offer a sense of independence, it can also feel incredibly lonely and overwhelming. This is especially true for individuals curious about NFT’s, Bitcoin, Cryptocurrency, and other trending topics (TBD’s primary focus), but they don’t know where to start.

Tampa Bay DAO is positioning itself as the bridge between free agents and the technical world of business, investing, and technology. One of the main ways this is accomplished is through networking events that bring together like-minded professionals, artists, and entrepreneurs.

The goal is to shape Tampa Bay’s free agents’ future positively while building a healthy community committed to helping others.

Rising Free Agents

The long held belief that financial security was only achieved through full-time employment with a seemingly trusted employer was challenged at the onset of the pandemic. As businesses around the world closed without notice, many employees were left in a state of fear and panic.

This left millions on the unemployment list looking for ways to earn money as they tried to plan their next move in an uncertain economy. Even more disturbing was that there was no promise as to where and if their next paycheck was on the way. The caveat to this is that once businesses started reopening their doors, many abandoned employees had no plan to return.

Enter the great resignation, which is ushering in the era of free agency, which is already booming in the Tampa Bay area, specifically in the tech space. The DAO believes that as the number of free agents increases so does the need for resources, education, support, and engagement.

Because once someone leaves their full-time job or is in the beginning stages of their exodus, a whole new world of opportunities and threats awaits on the other side.

The Threats

Some dismal statistics show that 20% of small businesses fail within the first year and 79% of small businesses have outstanding debt. These numbers may be alarming to individuals on the other side of their resignation or those still considering leaving their full-time job. The reality is, the free agency world is filled with information, tasks, and regulations that can drown a newcomer.

Not only that, there is an element of loneliness and disconnection that can arise without the water cooler conversations with colleagues and general collaborative environment that come with working for a brick and mortar business. When this occurs, it can make the independence found in the free agency world seem more like a nightmare than the dream it was promised to be.

At the forefront of all the issues and questions that may arise when becoming a free agent is money. How will you get it consistently? Who will you get it from? How will you track your finances? Where do you find a trusted CPA? And what about Bitcoin? Crypto? NFTs?

The DAO Solutions

These potential problems are essentially the driving force behind why Tampa Bay DAO was formed. Among the DAO founding members are free agents, developers, artists, and people with curly hair and man buns who work out of local coffee shops and kava bars. Those working environments encouraged informal conversations among free agents, which revealed a common problem.

Most people feel overwhelmed, curious, and disconnected and are in need of assistance.

At the same time, Tampa Bay’s freelancer community is one of the fastest growing in the country, so the problem has the potential to only become worse. To provide the solution, Tampa Bay DAO formed to harness the power, passion and purpose of the creative class by providing a community whose sole focus is to help one another.

Since this is a community-centered organization, all of the DAO efforts are centered around networking opportunities, educational materials, tools/services and inspirational messaging. Tampa Bay DAO current members represent various industries and are able to share their expertise with one another, giving the group greater value.

Crypto, NFTs, Bitcoin

Among the topics that have the potential to create greater impact within the free agency community are the three trending buzzwords – Crypto, NFTs, Bitcoin. For many, these words represent mounds of information that read more like a foreign language than simple technical terms. Despite the fact there are huge opportunities for free agents and especially creatives to dive deeper into these exploding industries, many are avoiding them all together.

The benefits of these three areas of investment are clear, which is why many of the DAO members are current investors committed to helping others both understand and enter the industry. This is where the DAO educational opportunities and collaboration are starting. Many of the networking events will be dedicated to these topics. Members will be able to ask questions and receive guidance about their next moves with Crypto, NFTs and Bitcoin from both a personal and professional standpoint.

In February, the DAO is planning to give away generative NFTs. This is a great opportunity for artists, creatives, and investors to get into this space. As membership continues to grow, the topics highlighted and materials shared will diversify based on the community’s needs.

Join the DAO

There is little to no barrier to entry into the DAO. If you are a free agent or considering free agency, the DAO community is a place to meet friendly, collaborative, and empowering members who are committed to creating self-sustainable lives for themselves and one another.
